Codeanywhere, a toolset provider for web development, announced its first acquisition this week. The company is acquiring Codebender, the Arduino playground. According to Codeanywhere, the acquisition will help accelerate its roadmap to introduce more developer tools that allow developers to develop anywhere, anytime and with anyone.
If you were sad that Codebender had bit the dust, cheer up. A site called codeanywhere has acquired the online Arduino development environment and brought it back to life. In addition to the main Codebender site, the edu and blocks sites are also back on the air.
Codeanywhere, a cross platform cloud IDE for creating web apps and sites has acquired Codebender, another cloud IDE that enables users to develop for Arduino devices. This is Codeanywhere’s first acquisition and financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Codeanywhere, which we have been tracking since their appearance at Disrupt New York, has rewritten their Cloud IDE from the bottom up to address this speed issue. With over half a million users, Codeanywhere is pitching itself as a kind of "Google Docs for developers" to make the cloud feel closer to coding on the desktop.

I love it. It's esspecally great for my open source projects, no need to install anything on my local machine. Just paste my GitHub URL and Codeanywhere takes care of the rest.

The ability to have a VS Code like editor on any of my devices, and on top of that not need to configure my environments is a win-win for me.

Codeanywhere's containers with pre-built tech stacks are a giant step in the right direction! It helps remove a lot of the dreaded setup and environmental configuration developers need to do, which is always welcome.
